Mailchimp and AI agents

Email is the one channel a business owns rather than rents — the list belongs to you, not to somebody else's algorithm. An agent takes on the part that keeps the newsletter from going out at all: writing it, keeping the segments honest, setting up what follows a purchase, and then telling you plainly what happened.

What an agent does in Mailchimp

  • Drafts the whole campaign — subject line, body, links — and shows it to you before anything goes out.
  • Keeps the segments honest: who signed up last week, who has already bought, who hasn't opened anything in three months.
  • Sets up what follows a purchase: the confirmation, the access, the message a week later.
  • Cleans the list: unsubscribes, duplicates and addresses that bounce leave, instead of sitting there for years.
  • Brings back the numbers after a send — opens, clicks, unsubscribes — and what they mean for the next one.

Processes that run themselves

A playbook isn't a button — it's a process with a condition that starts it. These three get set up most often.

The email after a purchase

A payment completes

  1. Move the buyer into the customers segment and out of the one still being sold to
  2. Send the confirmation and access from the template you approved in advance
  3. Queue a second message for a week later: how it's going, what to ask
  4. If the payment address doesn't match anything on the list, hand it to you rather than merging the two

A subscriber has gone quiet

A subscriber hasn't opened anything for three months

  1. Collect them into a segment of their own rather than checking address by address
  2. Prepare a single win-back email and show it to you before it goes
  3. Move whoever doesn't open that one into the inactive list and out of the regular send

The next campaign in the plan

The campaign slot in the content plan arrives

  1. Build the draft from what has happened since the last one: products, articles, questions people keep asking
  2. Pick the segment and say why that one
  3. Hand it to you for review, with the subject line and a preview
  4. Send once you approve, and bring the report a day later

Where the agent stops

  • No campaign goes out without your approval: a send cannot be recalled, and that alone is why nothing here sends itself.
  • It writes only to people who gave consent. Bought lists, and lists exported from somewhere else, don't get imported — not on request and not by oversight.
  • Unsubscribing works the first time, and consent is checked before a send rather than after a complaint. What the GDPR asks for is built into the thing, not a setting you can turn off.
  • It reports open and click rates after a send; it doesn't promise them beforehand. A number that doesn't exist yet is a number it won't quote.

FAQ

Will the agent email my whole list on its own?

No. It writes the campaign and picks the segment, but you press send. A sent email can't be pulled back — which is the one reason this stays with you under any arrangement.

I have a list from a conference and one I bought. Can both go in?

The people who signed up with you, yes. The bought one, no — and that isn't a setting. Mailing it wrecks the deliverability of everything else you send and breaks the rules Mailchimp itself runs on.

My list is old and half of it is dead. Is there anything to do with it?

That's usually where it starts: the agent separates the people who read from the ones silent for months and from addresses that no longer accept mail. Open rates usually go up after a clean-out — but it won't quote you a figure in advance, only the one measured after the first send.

Will the emails read like machine text?

It writes in your voice and from your material — your previous campaigns and what you say about the product. And you see the draft either way: edits happen in conversation, not in a template editor.
