Shopify and AI agents

A store's catalogue is a content problem wearing an operations costume. Descriptions written once and never touched since, a product that sold out without anyone noticing, the same item described three different ways in three places. An agent keeps the catalogue current and brings you the parts that need a person.

What an agent does in Shopify

  • Drafts a new product's copy in your store's voice rather than the supplier's.
  • Finds the listings that have drifted apart: one item, three different descriptions.
  • Spots copy that has gone stale — the materials changed, the text is still last year's.
  • Watches stock and says in advance what will run out before the weekend.
  • Flags an order that looks wrong before it gets picked and shipped.

Processes that run themselves

A playbook isn't a button — it's a process with a condition that starts it. These three get set up most often in a Shopify store.

A new product in the catalogue

A product is added in Shopify

  1. Pull the specs from the supplier's data, not from thin air
  2. Write the copy in the store's voice, plus a title that can be found
  3. Check whether the same item is already listed under another name
  4. Hand you the draft before anything is published

Stock heading down

Stock for an item falls below the level you set

  1. Work out how many days are left at the current rate of sale
  2. Warn you if it runs out before the weekend or before a promotion starts
  3. Assemble the reorder for the supplier: what, how many, by when
  4. Leave the buying decision with you

An order held for review

An order is flagged for review

  1. Put in one place what looks off: the address, the amount, a repeat order
  2. Check what is already known about this customer from earlier orders
  3. Bring you the order without touching anything to do with money

Where the agent stops

  • Prices and discounts aren't changed on its own initiative — that's your decision and your margin.
  • It drafts descriptions but doesn't invent properties, materials or certifications: what isn't in the source isn't in the text.
  • Refunds and cancellations stay with you; the agent gathers the context, you make the call.
  • Where a claim about a product carries a legal requirement — composition, origin, labelling — that is a human check.

FAQ

Will the agent edit my product pages by itself?

It prepares a draft and shows it next to what the page says today. Publishing happens after you confirm. You can let it publish unattended, but that's a separate agreement about a specific kind of edit, not the default.

Where does it get the product specs from?

From the supplier's data and from what's already in the catalogue. If a size, a material or a certificate isn't in the source, it leaves the gap and marks it rather than writing something plausible. A mismatch here is a complaint and a return.

Could it change a price during a sale?

No. Prices and discounts are a line it doesn't cross on its own initiative. It can notice that a heavily discounted item is selling out faster than you planned and tell you. Changing the number is yours.

What's needed to connect Shopify?

The store owner or a staff account with admin rights installs the app. After that the setup is a conversation: which collections it looks after, at what stock level it warns you, and what counts as an order to hold for review. No tokens or scopes by hand.
